Been putting out some chopped up bread mixed with dog food and owt else that's near its sell by date out of the fridge and best count of Blackbirds feeding at any one time so far is 15 ,but the interesting thing is they're all males apart from one female which is the most aggressive and dominant bird there!!
Mistle thrush on the berry tree outside my bedroom window. Knowing that all the waxwings that are about, I almost had a heart attack when I openned the curtains bleary eyed this morning. This is however the first bird I've seen on this tree feeding all winter, so holding out hope that something better might take a liking it to it!

A female blackcap was in my old trafford garden yesterday morning, it landed in the tree where I have placed some apples but did not stay long. Also a peregrine falcon was chasing the feral pigeons around in the wind but soon lost to view.

A slight upturn this weekend in birds coming to the garden (still eating mostly last years seed), with the first nuthatch for about a month, and even more momentous, a pair of bullfinches on a feeder (first for well over a year I think). Let's hope for something cold after Christmas so I can start on this years seed supply, and perhaps get a real surprise bird.

Looks like a "white christmas" has come early to my garden as this Sparrowhawk took out one the "white flying rats" that plague my garden and steal all the food put down for the finches, only 9 birds left in flock now, hopefully it'll get the taste for them and take a few more
A Brambling again visited my garden today. Looked like the same one as on Tuesday, and I think its a female.

A great new garden tick for me over my old Trafford garden, I just got out of my car to enter my gate & despite it being dark at 6.10pm I noticed some white birds heading over, I got my binoculars on them & they turned out to be 17 WHOOPER SWANS as they got closer I could hear them honking as they continued to head east.

First Goldfinch for a while in our Chorlton garden today, brought about by a change in feeders- has anyone noticed that changing the style of feeders (not the contents) has an impact on the birds they get in their gardens? Used to get goldfinches on a seed feeder with a squirrel guardian on it, but when they broke they were a lot less likely to go on a big exposed one that pigeons and other things could land on. Now, I put a protected feeder up, and they're back!
