1 Scaup 100+ Tufted Duck 30+ Great Crested Grebe 30+ Goosander 1 Kestrel 1 Wheatear 20-30 Swallow 1 Hobby went high South, seemed to have grub in it's grip. 2 Common Sandpiper 4 Lapwing over followed by 15 that landed on bank of No3 then 70 came down on bank of No2, couldn't tell if they had all joined together or maybe 89 different birds. first visit since May where no Swifts seen. 4/5 Common Gull Plenty Lesser Black-backed and Black-headed Gulls

2 female Common Scoter 1 drake Scaup 1 Common Sandpiper c130 Tufted Duck c27 Goosander c50 Great Crested Grebe 1 juv Peregrine chasing a Pied Wagtail. The Peregrine was then harassed by Crows and flew within touching distance 3 Goldeneye
1 Dunlin also recorded by Roy Travis this morning

1 Hobby flew low along causeway from South then high to North, it didn't linger. 1 Juv. Curlew being moved around by DWs and Gulls 2 Ringed Plover 4 Common Gull 1 F/M Kestrel on the water much as Karen had earlier. Gull numbers increasing with every visit mainly Lesser Black-backed and Black Headed.

Yes, it could have been a Tufted duck, but the orange bill base has me confused Ian. Can other birders keep an eye out for it.

Only going off the description provided Graham I'd ask why the bird wasn't a juvenile Tufted Duck? Especially bearing in mind they often look much brighter and lack the tiny crest that the Collins Field Guide shows.
If it were an aythya hybrid one would have to ask a hybrid between what?
Also saw amongst the Scaup and Tufted on No 2 an all brown duck with sides light brown/golden and upper bill base a neat orange strip. Closest is a juv. Scaup but shape and colour of bill base wrong. Aythya hybrid?

1 juvenile Yellow Wagtail, alighted briefly but was disturbed by dog walkers 3 Common Terns were around most of the time I was there catching small fry and flying so close that I didn't need my bins to see the tips of their bills 43 Tufted Ducks 2 Goldeneye male and female (latter seemed to have arrived with Tufteds)
