Had 2 waxwings in my garden in Bromley cross Bolton today. Got some great shots of the pair. After chasing round Bolton to spot them at various sites over the last few monthes it was fantastic to have them settle in the garden. Incidently they were feeding on the crab apples no the usual berries!! Fingers crossed they are back tomorrow!!

Does anyone think that the Atherton birds will stay around for another day? I'd really like to have a look at them, but is there enough food to keep them there another another day? Many thanks, Joe

From the lofty heights of my fifth floor office window opposite the Cresta Court hotel, Altrincham, there were c50 Waxwings seen on three occassions this morning. The flock would perch at the top of a large tree at the junction of Barrington Road and Hazel Road before making quick visits to a couple of small Rowans on the north side of Woodlands Road where the road crosses over the tram track. Not many berries left.

Apparently there are still plenty of berries in the area, including along Rochdale Road so keep your eyes peeled ( and remember your mobile phones!)

sorry to have missed you Rob, would have been good to catch up ... had the kids with me so was only a brief visit. The birds were in the tall ash tree when I arrived and I was very fortunate in that I parked inadvertently next to the house with the berries and was afforfded views from just 2-3yards from the car. Managed to get quite of few of the locals (half) interested too. Also checked out a few sites around Hale over the weekend but nothing doing there, although there are alot of Redwings about. There are a couple of Rowans on my road (Rivington - keep a look out Sid!!) yet to be raided, along with a large pyracantha, presently monitored by a lone Mistle Thrush, so still hoping for a garden visit too.

No sign of the birds on Brown St. in Hale, but lots of rotten or rotting berries, would they be bothered by that sort of thing? A quick trip to stockport station and there were none there either, but a flock of three mistle thrushes were dominating the trees, so the waxies were probably scared away by the thrushes. Loads of berries left though, so they may still return.
