Just a walk from the Dam to Seddon Fold Farm, as the main field by Beaumont Road was being ploughed.
On the Dam: Jackdaws 2 Pied Wagtail 1 Grey Wagtail in the overflow and then perched out for some time on the Gantry. Black-headed Gull on the Gantry From the Dam: Great Crested Grebe 2 Mallards 6 Tufted Duck 6 Cormorant 1 Mute Swan 1 Coot 1 Another Cormorant and a Lesser Black-backed Gull over. On the first football field up the path 2 Mistle Thrushes were playing, one in goal and one at centre back. Woodpigeon 10 House Sparrow 12 The Flood was frozen with 7 Carrion Crow , 2 more Pied Wagtail and a Meadow Pipit around in the muddy field. Along Lock Lane I added a Long-tailed Tit and more Robins to make 7 in total. A distant view of the Lodge showed a lot of Cormorants close together on one island.
Glad to learn that the(expected) Little Owl is back but I did not see it today

Went on a wild goose chase, and found the goose!
Brent goose seen grazing with the Canada geese on the West side of the reservoir around 4 o'clock. I arrived at 3, looked carefully through the flock and missed it! So I found myself going all the way round the reservoir looking for it, and came back to find somebody else had arrived, who quickly found it hiding between the Canada geese. I didn't catch his name, but thanks a lot, who ever you are, I would never had seen it! The goose was much smaller than I expected, and I have a habit of never noticing things until I actually see them (if you see what I mean).
A nice little twitch well worth the trip.

12 until 2 this afternoon.
Brent Goose seen flying in from the West, low over Lodge at 1.0pm. Landing on island for short time. Other birders present.(Karen Foulkes and Geoff Hargreaves) It was then lost over the west side. I expected it to have flown to the flood but it was again not there! Returning to the Beaumont Road entrance I scoped it feeding in a field on the west bank just north of ''Teal Inlet'' It was still feeding there at 1.50pm.
Other suspects as previous post of today, plus Buzzard,Grey Heron and 50 Jackdaw.

No sign of Brent Goose at first light. The Flood mainly covered in thin ice,although pair of Mallards present. Just a quick visit was all I could manage, so it could be tucked away or on main Lodge. I hope to check later.

I had a second look this morning for the Brent Goose, around 9.30. Still no sign of it, either around the flood or adjacent fields.
In the field by Tempest Court there were c70 Lapwing feeding with part of the mixed Starling Flock.( until spooked by a Sparrowhawk). Numerous Robin and Blackbird along the paths ,2 Greenfinch, several Chaffinch and a Song Thrush singing in St. John's Wood. At the Dam were 4 Tufted Duck, 2 Canada Geese and Mallards.

I was met on arrival by a large mixed flock of Starling and Fieldfare. The Starlings were a bit flighty, often leaving the Fieldfare. Making it easy to count:

On arrival there was a large(c250) mobile flock of Thrush and Starling. Most of these eventually arrived in a nearby Hawthorn hedge from where I could do a count:
These birds then fed, not on berries, but on the adjacent grassy field. Also in this hedge: a c12 flock of Long-tailed Tit through, and a Blue Tit.
Mute Swans/Canada Geese/Mallards/Coots: numbers similar to my last post. Cormorant...numbers up to 9 Tufted Duck..numbers up to 14 Great Crested Grebe...2 Pochard...1 Teal...6 Common Snipe...1 Blackbirds...8 Woodpigeon...12 A Buzzard...on same post as before! On arrival there was a large(c250) mobile flock of Thrush and Starling.
Most of these eventually arrived in a nearby Hawthorn hedge from where I could do a count:

These birds then fed, not on berries, but on the adjacent grassy field.
Also in this hedge: a c12 flock of Long-tailed Tit through, and a Blue Tit.

7 swans over , quite high, heading West. Probably Whoopers. Possibly the 7 birds seen at Elton earlier.
