A friend of mine witnessed a gathering of at least a hundred hirundines at Tinker Joe's Flash over a week ago, and at least three parties of between twenty and thirty Swallows arrived after 2138 hrs. tonight. Shortly before ten o'clock there were about a hundred overhead (possibly a coming-together of the earlier arrivals), but the anticipated entry into the reeds came to nothing, and they appeared to drift off to the north, perhaps to another local reed-bed. There were no Sand Martins with them.
