Curiously, the swallows were landing and perching on the ground during the rain. Usually they land in trees etc. but I've never seen them gather like this before.

Another year first with a quick glimpse of a Lesser whitethroat Whitethroat Sedge warbler Grasshopper warbler in a chase with another Blackcap Willow warbler Chiffchaff Swallow Swift Oystercatcher Lapwing Gadwall Greylag geese (I also forgot to add these to yesterday too) oh, and a Jay and almost forgot Willow tit too!

My morning exercise had a few challenges, especially thanks to the Canal and River Trust blocking a track road on my way back from Tesco!
Highlights include......
A water rail showed well briefly Pheasant Grey wagtail Lapwing Oystercatcher Common sandpiper Whitethroat Willow warbler Chiffchaff My first Sedge warbler Swift Swallow Sand martins My 1st Wheatear (which literally dropped on the path in front of me close) Gadwall I heard a kingfisher by the river and saw one a little further up on my way to Tescos

Highlights from this a.m. 2 Little Gulls were constanly harassed by Black-headed Gulls before flying off East. 7 Common Sandpipers (perhaps more) with 100's of Sand Martin many Swallows and 1 Swift. Male and female Wheatear near Old Hall Farm and brief view of the Grasshopper Warbler near the canal. Cheers Ian

Excellent morning today, a Mandarin Duck flew through ( seen thanks to another exercising birder), 100s of Sand Martin and Swallow with 2 House Martin, 2 Common Sandpiper, 1 Water Rail and 1 Wheatear.

A cycle around Elton this morning produced a pair of Black-necked Grebes, 1 Dunlin, 2 Common Sand, 9 Gadwall, 4 Shoveler, 15 Swallows and 19 singing Willow Warblers.
I was working this morning (as a cleaner) so I could only manage a flying visit .... (but without wings)
Beautiful to listen and see the warblers about:
Blackcap showed very well Chiffchaff Willow warbler
And a common buzzard over.

Highlight this a.m. was my first Whitethroat of the year. On the Res. 2 Goosander(males), 11 Shoveler, 10 Gadwall, 13 Goldeneye and 1 Sand Martin over. On Withins 2 Pink-footed Geese still. Willow Warblers, Chiffchaff and Blackcap are now present in numbers also. Cheers Ian
Ps. The lambs are being born now, so spring is officially here. I'm also starting to miss my cake and custard now from my usual trips to Leighton Moss!
