Julian, thanks for the early posting. Went to Ladybridge Community Centre this afternoon at 4pm, no waxwings present, but on driving around found 14 sitting in a tree, feeding on an adjacent berry laden tree on Back Rimsdale Walk at about 4.30pm. Managed to get in fairly close before a bus scared them off. Waxwings don't like buses!

It was dull and raining, I wound the window down, watched and listened to them for 10 minutes. They were constantly calling to each other. Had a quick count and reckon there were 60 - 70 of them. Brightened up a dull day.

Whalley Range 12.05pm 250/300 Egerton Rd North / Upper Chorlton Rd on usual berry tree but also on smaller trees further down. At one point 3 sizable flocks (one of 160+). Large flock on tall tree on Upper Chorlton being harassed by 5 magpies with little effect! Large groups drinking water from gutters of a number of houses along Egeton Rd N - many birds also fly catching. Trees, aerials, bushes and telephone wires full - amazing! Watched for 20 minutes
