08.00/11.15 this misty morning, visibility around 150 yards.
Large finch flock along Twelve Yards Road between f16 and f52 certainly 300 plus, we managed to pick out three Brambling (GM tick) when they settled in the trees.
Good flock of Yellowhammer c20 with two Corn Bunting (GM tick) flitting around with them.
A lovely mornings birding.

Late report for Friday 17/12/21 pm
6+ Corn Bunting (+ 2 Yellowhammers + several Chaffinch) in tree on Twelve Yards Road between f52 & f16
Large flock (50-100) of finches/buntings flitting wildly around f52 - not skillful enough to identify in flight and totally disappeared in stubble each time they settled
2 Sparrowhawk at N end of track between f52 & f18 - at least one was female but unable to confirm if a pair (or 2 females) before they flew off
300-500 Pink Footed Geese in f62
2 Marsh Harriers in f62, both female or immature - one with the previously reported red wing tag
W side of Little Woolden Moss LWTNR
2 Wigeon, 1 male, 1 female
1 Greylag Goose - looking very lonely

A visit in the very misty conditions this am was a bit frustrating, masses of birds along 12 Yards Road, but unfortunately difficult to see it was so misty . Plenty of Redwing and Fieldfare feeding in the flooded fields and several large flocks of finches feeding on the stubble fields including Corn Buntings,Yellowhammers,Greenfinch,Reed Buntings,Chaffinch and Brambling. Impossible to count them accurately due to the conditions, but well in excess of 500 birds. Along Astley Street in the flooded field opposite Olive Mount farm a flock of 200 + Pink Footed geese

Highlights of just 20 species found....
12 Skylark
250 Starling
48 Fieldfare
35 Redwing
1 Green Sandpiper in the pools F38K adjacent to The River Glaze
The previous two squares were bad, but this is by far the worst, which is predominately turf & so called improved grass. Bird species here are so depleted it's not even worth a mention, but what is worth mentioning is the complete eradication of all the traditional Farmland Birds e.g. Yellowhammer Skylark Meadow Pipit etc. etc....all gone.
Together with the impending destruction of Barton Moss (The Port Of Barton) is an environmental disaster, and highly controversial.
Will Andy Burnham the Politicians and The Captains of Industry take note ?...I doubt it.

100 Canada Geese on west side of river

151221 Brief Afternoon Visit after 'meet the inspector' Team Meeting wrt the Salford Local Development Plan...it was civilised BUT I feel wildlife is NOT on the agenda...Biodiversity was used but not too sure if the powers that be really...really understand what that 'buzz word' actually means with respect to the dire state of our world...upon which this Local Plan aims to pour on more concrete...

A visit in the very misty conditions this am was a bit frustrating, masses of birds along 12 Yards Road, but unfortunately difficult to see it was so misty
.
