Visiting with friends for the weekend, we took a walk about Chorlton this afternoon - as we walked up Beech Road a flock of twenty or so waxwings flew overhead, calling. This at about 2.30pm I believe. We then turned off towards Chorltonville and a few minutes later encountered what was probably the same flock of birds, twenty plus, on Claude Road. This time they perched for a few minutes before taking flight again. Later on in afternoon, nearing dusk, we came across a pair of Goosander on the river Mersey in Sale Water Park. Not bad for an afternoon stroll, just wish I'd had me bins..

33 Waxwings in large tree opposite Peter House Surgery on Park Road, Westhoughton at 12.00am today. Loads of berries on very large Cotoneaster in the rear garden of the house on Park Road across the side road from the Surgery. Looks as though they could be there for a few more days yet.

The Waxwings are still in south Manchester! There were about 60 birds in trees on the corner of Elm Road and Pine Road in Didsbury. I was shooting past on by bicycle on the way to work, heard the familiar trilling calls, then screeched to a halt. I'm glad there wasn't a car behind me!

I was walking over the old railways bridge on Linney Lane, Shaw, about 08.00 last Friday. I saw about 12 birds which I could not identify, no binocs and very misty. One or two flew out of the tree and back, like a flycatcher, the others just sat and looked. Having seen their heads, and mentioned it to my wife, and seeing this thread. I am sure they were indeed waxwings. Peter Jones Shaw

You beat me to it Judith - I saw 40 Waxwings in the poplars too at 9:30am this morning. They were swooping down to the berry trees at the side of the Community Centre.
I took my camera but it was too dull and overcast for any decent photos. I spent more time talking to a few of the locals about what I was doing and what the birds were. I'll be back this week if the sun comes out as there are still quite a few berries left and the birds come down to within 15-20 feet. Another one for the year list!

Also, a single Waxwing flew over Altrincham Sewage Works going north, but in the thick fog I couldn't see it at all!

Thursday 18th February at 3pm there were 53 waxwings in a tall tree nearly opposite the junction of Dam Head Drive on Haverfield Road, M9. The row of trees in the garden opposite is virtually stripped of berries as are all the trees on the estate with just a few squashed berries on the ground.

42 in the tree at Bakewell St Car Park, (near G W Turners Funeral Directors) Edgeley, Stockport at 10.50. The berry tree they feed on seems to sprout out of the top of the Turners building - but more likely there will be an inner courtyard. Still plenty of berries visible and perhaps lots more that cannot be seen.
The Waxwings have been around this area for nearly a week now so seems a good bet for those who still need/want to see waxies in this area.

I'd be surprised if it were there Judith. Certainly nothing for them as previous trees have all but gone and I passed twice today, in the morning just for that reason. Of course they could have easily come in between my visits but I wondered if the observer meant Hope Hospital?
