Following a text from Rob Smallwood yesterday saying that I should get down to Rumworth to digiscope the Pec Sand as it was showing ridiculously close I headed over this morning. Arriving mid morning there were no other birders around so I started to search. Eventually on 1 scan I noticed the top of a warders head just poking above a clump of grass tussocks. Moving a wee bit high sure enough it was the Pec Sand. I can see now why sometimes this bird may get missed, I could have easily not seen it & assumed it not to be present.
I then spent about an hour photographing it, stalking slowly closer but the bird was always just feeding and seeming totally oblivious to me being there. I carefully retreated and pointed out where it was to Joe who had just arrived on site, nice to meet you & your mum, mate. Looking back I saw that you had got it full frame too!! Good to bump into Marvin too back at the car, presume that you had no trouble finding it either.
A cracking way to spent a couple of hours in the sunshine & a quality bird for Greater Manchester

Popped in this evening to see the lovely Pectoral Sandpiper after work, escorted by mr Warford. It wasn't particularly active, but manouvred enough to display its more promonant features. Cracking to see one in the County. Lots of Meadow Pipits and wagtails dropping in too, but apart from 4 snipe it was surprisingly quiet!?

Pectoral Sandpiper showing at 11.30 this morning in the short scrub between the end of the grass track from Beaumont Road and the waters edge. Showed well at times then would hide behind tussocks. There were sunny periods when it's markings showed very well. GM lifer for me. Not easy to find and I was lucky that two birders were onto it when I arrived. Its not always like that as we all well know.

Had another try for the Pectoral Sandpiper again this afternoon. I actually thought I'd dipped it again after searching all the shorelines, etc for about twenty minutes. Luckily on my last scoping of the shores I found it hiding away amongst some Black-headed Gulls. Only the second one I've ever seen and a nice GM tick too.
