Decided to try my luck with the Grasshopper warblers seen as its been a while since I've even heard one let alone see one. After staking out a patch of dead vegetation where a Grasshopper warbler was reeling from I was rewarded with some long views of it singing in partial cover, not the best views but worth standing in the rain for a hour or so.

With Chris Chandler after work this evening, from around 18.00 to 20.00
Lovely evening, the plan was to try and see a Grasshopper Warbler. We found 2 reeling birds and saw 1, but there were probably 3 present; lots of reeling was heard in distinct areas but we only had 2 definitely different birds pinned down at once.
The bonus was a smart male Whinchat seen in the brambles and long grass on the bank to the south side of the cricket club. Also in the same area 1 of the Grasshopper Warblers and a pair of Reed Buntings. There was a certain amount of territorial sparring going on between the warbler and the buntings but the Whinchat seemed happy enough with life, although we never got closer than 100m or so before it would disappear into the cover.
No Whitethroats evident.
