Just a quick visit this morning to check on the Tern chick that had fallen off one of the rafts. Sad to report I spotted it's remains near the shore in the small bay next to Ripon Avenue & Markland Hill Lane.

Common Terns 20+ (all 3 rafts now have chicks, the first time I've known a pair to hatch a chick on the raft west of the causeway. the other 2 rafts on the eastern side have 3 on the repaired raft & 5 on the old raft. 9 chicks in total).

visited today 8.50am to 10.30am, Common Terns as before, lots of Willow Tits mostly young seen and heard and 4 Great Crested Grebe the first visit since early March where there has been more than one I hope there is still time for them to breed. 2 Garden Warblers heard singing.

Common Terns 18+ (including 7 chicks on the 2 rafts east of the causeway, single adult still on the western raft no sign of chicks there so far I suspect it's eggs may have been taken by Black-headed Gulls & it may have re-laid as it is very wary of any approaching gull taking to the air and attacking etc)

Common Terns 18+ (both rafts east of the causeway are with chicks, the raft on the western side still has an adult on the base, but it was moving about, whether the eggs have hatched or whether they have been predated by the Black-headed Gulls that were flying around the raft on Friday I'm not sure I couldn't make out any young through the weeds growing on the raft.)

Visited today between 8.45am to 10.25am. Just as I arrived there was a commotion at the Tern rafts and all the birds took to the air, then I notice a Sparrowhawk flying away carrying a prey item. Whether it had raided a raft or had just flown over carrying it's victim I'm not sure. 34 species seen & heard on this visit including:
