This morning: Dam to Flood. 2 Redshank at flood 6 Lapwing in same field. 2 Great Crested Grebe ...channel Grey Heron Over 2 Mistle Thrush in wood. Plenty Chaffinch and 2 Dunnock singing. 6 House Sparrow drinking from road puddle.

quick visit this pm mainly on lock lane
buzzard carrying a rat, approx 14-30 3 redshank and 2 pied wagtail in flooded field area, 60+ starling, c20 fieldfare, great tit, blue tit, goldfinch, chaffinch, robin, wren, 1 tree sparrow, house sparrow,jackdaw, rook, carrion crow,magpie, 200+ wood pigeon, heron over, looking towards the lodge i could make out 2 oystercatcher, cormorant and canada geese but struggled to id the smaller ducks, mallards and lapwing were in various fields.

A good hour at the Lodge and Lock Lane, up to 10.25 Weather idyllic!
2 Mediterranean Gulls on west bank grass below the wood. one fully hooded and one nearly so. with c30 Black-headed Gulls. ...these another first for me at Rummy today.
Common Gull...1 on water. Gadwall....8 often in convoy...my highest count here. Teal....8 Tufted Duck....2 Great crested Grebe...6 Cormorants...10 Canada Goose, Lapwing, Coots and Moorhens scattered about. Oystercatcher...3 often away Chaffinch...4 in song Wren...1 in song Dunnock...2 House Sparrows...c10 Blue Tit Starlings...9 Pied Wagtail...6 A large 200+ flock was seen, at distance crossing Lock Lane, but against the sun. Looked like Starling/Winter Thrush mix.

Also he thinks the Lapwing are doing better as local foxes are well down in numbers.

The 4 Goosander( thanks for the text Steve) still present in the channel at 1pm. However they were working their way to the top end, and nearly out on the lodge as I left. Also in the channel: Cormorants....5 Great Crested Grebe....4 Mallards....8 Moorhen....2 Grey Heron ...1 plus one in long grass by Lock Lane. The only thing I can add to Steve's list is 9 Goldfinch with the Pied Wagtails. Re the Tawny Owl I thought that I had a probable yesterday evening, perched by the motorway as I drove back from Brockholes. It was on the Chew Moor side on Stan's land.

90 minutes this am up to 11.30 Strong winds with heavy rain for the last half hour. Sightings: Cormorants....9 Great Crested Grebe....4 Canada Goose...35 Lapwing...26....on island. Starlings....c650 ( 2 large flocks either side of Lock Lane and at least 250 in fields south of lodge) Mixed Jackdaw/Carrion Crow flock...c75 Lesser Black-backed Gull...1 over south of lodge .With very black wings Black-headed Gulls c70... in flooded horse field. Tufted Duck....22 Pochard...23 Mallards These were the only ducks out on the choppy water and even these would disappear into the woods in water. Plenty Coots and a horde of MAGPIE.

One hour up to noon today. From the Dam: Great Crested Grebes....4 (with a pair displaying) Grey Heron...2 stood on bank Moorhen...1 Dunnock...1 Mallard...1 In the flooded field: 28 Starlings were feeding with 3 Fieldfare. Lone Lapwing and Black-headed Gull. A Jay flew low across Lock Lane. Collared Doves....2 As the heavy freezing cold rain got worse, I settled for the Lock Lane coffee shop instead of a trip to the Lodge!

From the dam: Great Crested Grebe....3 Mallards...2 Moorhen...1 Just as I was leaving the Dam I had a glimpse of 2 Goldeneye drakes flying low over the water, towards the entrance to the channel. An unusual sighting at Rumworth. One drake later located with the Pochard on main Lodge.
Lock Lane: Pied Wagtail....14+ Goldfinch...c12 Starlings...35 Carrion Crow...c20 Lapwing....70+ Later over main Lodge.
Main Lodge: Cormorant....4 Great Crested Grebe...1 Pink-footed Geese....Skein of c200 seen towards the A6.... heading NW at 12.50 pm Ducks...eventually more emerged from roots to count as: Pochard....20 Gadwall....2 Tufted Duck....23 Teal...13 And the Goldeneye...1 drake. Canada Geese...2 Black-headed Gull...c130 not checked. Coots and Mallards

Also, at 10.33, a small flock of geese was seen in the distance, circling then landing beyond Seddon Fold Farm. I yomped round to Lock Lane and found a nice group of 15 Pink-Footed Geese feeding in a field between Seddon Fold Farm and the motorway. Still there at 11.15.

A large 200+ flock was seen, at distance crossing Lock Lane, but against the sun. Looked like Starling/Winter Thrush mix.

I picked one up crossing the channel just up from the Dam and it landed on a bush whereon was the second... a first for me at Rummy!

towards the entrance to the channel. An unusual sighting at Rumworth. One drake later located

Also, at 10.33, a small flock of geese was seen in the distance, circling then landing beyond Seddon Fold Farm. I yomped round to Lock Lane and found a nice group of 15 Pink-Footed Geese feeding in a field between Seddon Fold Farm and the motorway. Still there at 11.15.
