Many down there seem to be on the lookout for Waxwings presently. We now have hundreds in Durham (biggest single flock is of 112 at Blaydon). With a Cedar waxwing found today in Co. Mayo, it's possible that some birds found in the northwest of England could conceivably have arrived from north America, in which case it would be something if they'd brought one of their smaller buddies with them. It's worth checking undertail coverts, head pattern and facial markings as well as overall size, as a matter of course on all and any Waxwings found.
Good Hunting!

Tried many of the sites around Stockport area where Waxwings have turned up in the past.
Old Hall Drive, Half Moon Lane and Henry Street in Offerton. Stockport station approach, Duke Street, Hempshaw Lane, Upper Brook Street. Woodley precinct and Lower Bents Lane.
Only Stockport Station and Woodley Precinct have any berries and even these are sparse.
Cheers, John

Made a dash around 12h30 but didn't see anything. Saw those berry trees near the train line: a big tit band was going by (as well as a sparrowhawk swooping into a bush just 4 metres from me. The tit got away in the end.). Like Pete said, it looks like there will be plenty more opportunities as the weeks go by, though a sighting so close to home was to good to miss!

Had a text today from Tony the greenkeeper at Turton Golf Course that 30 Waxwings were pointed out to him by one of the golfers at about 11.30am. When I got home this afternoon my neighbour shouted me to tell me about Waxwings, and it turned out it was him and his mate (a good birder), who had seen them. Unfortunately for Tony the shouting to him flushed the birds and he missed them as they flew off towards Jumbles.
I saw Tony mid afternoon as he finished work at the course. He had checked the course throughout the afternoon without success. I then went down to Jumbles but there was no sign of them.
About the time they saw them I was at Doffcocker thinking some of the trees would be perfect for Waxwings as they were full of berries. Wrong place, wrong time !
Tomorrow is obviously a day for checking all my local spots still with berries. The last couple of days they have been reported from Preston, Chorley, Whalley.

What made me laugh, was the sight of a small flock of GM birders in the precinct, as I was passing, I scanned the trees and stopped to talk to Karen, Riggers et al, nice sunday morning chat, however we were so busy talking, I believe they flew over our heads trilling, but we failed to confirm a proper sighting to add to the year list, maybe tomorrow.......

Ian is quite right. I only went to look for someone else's birds and got lucky. I was the seeker, not the finder.
I had been in the area for approximately 50 minutes and was on the verge of going and looking elsewhere. I looked across the precinct from near the newsagents and saw the birds perched across the road. Robert Adderley arrived in time to see them briefly before they flew quite low in the rough direction of Stockport. They didn't appear to be going far though, so hopefully they are still in the area.
There were two Mistle Thrushes on the berries and the Waxwings never attempted to fly to the berries.
