I also heard a bullfinch calling at 3pm too!!
I'm hoping that I will get some siskins in January, which is the best month for me to get these.
This is the first time I've logged in and posted something for over 6 weeks!
This is because of an incident I've had to deal with and ment I had to cancel most of my birding activity. I'm hoping to get out again within days..... hopefully!
Anyway, my Radcliffe garden has been exciting over the last couple of days with rare garden visit of 3 Redwings in a tree and at least 2 Lesser redpolls on my Niger feeder.
I suspected back in the hard winter of 2010 that I had my first ever redwing visit, but this now removes any doubt.

A very early surprise this morning at 10.04 am. A male blackcap appeared in the magnolia. This is 3 weeks earlier than expected.
This inspired a mini garden bird watch and at 1 pm a nuthatch appeared in the magnolia which holds the bulk of the feeders. The nuthatch is an infrequent visitor to the garden.
Other birds observed: 1 collard dove; 4 wood pigeons; 2 carrion crows; 2 blackbirds; 6 magpies; a small charm of goldfinch; 4 blue tits; 1 great tit; 1 coal tit; 1 robin; 1 dunnock; around 12 redwings flying over and the usual house sparrows today circa 25.
