As I was queing to pay my 12p to cross Warburton Bridge this evening a Buzzard was sat right at the top of an ornamental conifer in someone's garden. The branch looked so flimsy it didn't look capbable of taking it's weight. Would be a nice garden tick though!

Unfortunately Steven, it's not the amount of berries over here that attracts the Waxwings, it's the lack of berries in their native Scandanavia! Here's hoping though

BTW, we saw 2 swifts in Shaw today.

Cheers Henry / Nick Its probably just a local thing. I had a visit to Irlam Moss yesterday. Only had a flock of about 20 or so. This time last year I estimated c.3000 !! Maybe they ate so many insects there's none left this year!!!

There's still decent numbers of them over the fields around Lowton. Must be a lack of flies in Irlam.
Check out this page from the BTO's BirdTrack website which depicts the weekly reporting rate for Swift in the NW of England: http://blx1.bto.org/bt-dailyresults/results/s295-1-11.html
The reporting rate in 2009+2010 drops off rapidly in the first week of August so perhaps they've just left a few days earlier than normal Steven? In my area they are still present but in obviously lower numbers as some birds move off. Henry.
