After several fruitless searches I got great views of waxwings on Ledson Rd. I'm not great at estimating numbers but would guess between 12 and 20. First time I've seen waxwing so very happy

Apologies. If you have made your way to the specified industrial estate and are looking for the birds outside Assembly Contacts, you'll need to move on and find Assembly Contracts.

Hi Harry
1 lone Waxwing outside assembly contracts 2:30-3:15. Perched in Rowan just above head height before moving to tree beyond conifer. There are plenty of berry bearing trees on the estate so no doubt they will remain for the time being.

The sparrowhawk (m) flew about 1m in front of us, really fast, the waxwings were very jittery and flighty all day, that and a load of buses probably the reason
Really nice to put faces to the names John Rayner, Tony Coatsworth and Henry Cook too!! as Joe said, good company
Also at least 3 mistle thrush and a single fieldfare (first of winter for me!)

Just before Ollie had them at Tesco the birds at Roundthorn were attacked by a Sparrowhawk, amazing to see it have two passes at the flock. The flock then split, half going towards Tesco the other going off down the estate. Great if short views of the hawk, lovely bird. Good company too.

c50 Waxwings in Tesco car park, Baguley at about 3:30pm.
The tribe flew across the car park, landing on a tree within 20 feet of me. Trained the scope on them and then a local chap stopped and asked if I was searching for alien lifeforms. Ignoring the jibe, I started explaining to him about the Waxwings, at which point, the group swarmed into a tree directly in front of us, within not much more than five feet.
The gentleman did not convert to Ornithology, but nevertheless, I did feel a bit like David Attenborough.

83 in Monmouth Park, Ordsall at 3.45. Rowans still heavy with berries, though fiercley guarded by Mistle Thrushes. This group breaks up and ranges across to Ordsall Park, Salford Keys, Craven Rd etc.
NatureBytes the birds will stay around as long as there is food available. They are favouring Rowan berries at the moment (not the orange cultivars) and ignoring cotoneaster which they will move onto later, as well as hawthorn and rose hips. Many birds appear to be flycatching still, I'd have thought recent cold snaps would have killed off insects though I've film footage of them, taken in Hulme last week, seemingly feeding on insects on the branches and leaves of sycamores.
