The gated road, Cow Lane ( which had a male Golden Oriole on 20.5.79 - not my record ) should be closed to public vehicular access, so prob best to park at the VC car park check the feeders for the Willow Tit and walk down checking the lake to the left and the Mersey to the right. When I last checked the Dole still hadn't been pumped to provide for the LRP's and Stretford Ees looked better, which is directly across the river on the Stretford side. The Chorlton Ees heronry is directly across the rapids from the dole. Not to forget Jacksons Boat pub and the butty van at the roundabout

From the VC take the road towards Deckers then turn right down the (often gated) road to your right. Follow it along to go along the Mersey side of the WP and you can do a circular around the Dole which is between the WP and the river.
The marshy area often attracts passage Whinchat (or at least did when I lived in Sale Moor).
