No sign of any waders this morning (Monday) except for oystercatcher and redshank but I did get a cuckoo (seen for once) in the plantation behind the Saddleworth Hotel or does it call itself by some other name now.

thanks for the tip off. Indeed a site mega. Recorded this species on 12th April 1997 at Castleshaw (and not many sightings here since)- a mega day cos Oystercatcher was also present and a first for the site for me and Phil.
With the water levels quire low here's hoping that a few more waders are attracted on passage.

You can view it online on http://www.bing.com/maps/?mm_src=home
type in where you want to look, click on Road and the OS Map. It will be Landranger, until you really zoom in and it goes to the 1:25 maps!

Does the outflow from the reservoirs which joins the Tame in Delph have a name? The Castleshaw Dipper records are interesting this year in particular as a pair did not breed at the usual location in Delph Village. A pity since we drove past a rather good little cafe on our 'rounds'. We hve been led to believe that there is a distinct lack of suitable nest sites on that brook, and our own visits tend to agree with that feeling. Since a pair bred at New Years Bridge Res it suggests that in spite of a harsh winter the rivers still hold adequate numbers of invertebrates for those species that eat them even at these 'mountainous' sites. NYBR is in the same tetrad so Atlas info might not give us a breeding status for Castleshaw for whoever does/did the recording. Judging by this thread, the site is well recorded but winter Dippers skulk well and are notoriously difficult to spot.
Cheers
Tony
