Yesterday at Millgate Fields, Didsbury at the overflow gate for the Mersey Tony Darby and myself saw a Grey Wagtail catch and eat what seemed to be a small fish! (we were watching from only about 15 feet). I had thought Wagtails were insectivores. Anybody know anything more about this?

almost forgot this, 1 yellow greenfinch just after 8am this morning at Trafford bar bus stops, several other greenfinches about but soon disappeared in the shrubs, on the Manchester bound side. possibly the same bird I have seen on 3 other occasions locally and also seen by phil Kelly last year. if it is the same bird that I first seen on 29th june 2010, it has done well not to of been caught by a sparrowhawk

Somewhat surprisingly there was a reed bunting (definitely not a house sparrow, the neck was 'too' white & the head was a dark black) feeding on the playing field behind Rhodes (Middleton) Cemetery this morning. If you know the area you will know just how surprising a find this is - although we have, in past years, had oystercatchers foraging for insects on the field.
