According to BWP, Greenfinches do sometimes nest in neighbourhood groups of 4-6 pairs with no territory defended as such. They just defend immediate nest area. Must say I've never witnessed it. Collared Doves are less likley to nest close together and do defend a territory.

is it true greenfinches nest in large groups or do they sometimes nest in single pairs? the reason i ask is that we have a pair of greenfinches who seem to spend a lot of time in the neighbours leylandii, we never see them together and wonder if thats because one is on the nest? we also think that their are 2 collared doves in the same tree nesting as they spend all their time in there!

Robins nest building in the ivy and ripping up moss from all over the garden, blackbirds ripping up what ever moss the robins haven't and making mud pies in the pond. I think dunnocks are considering nest building but the robins keep chasing them and sparrows and great tits are taking beakfulls of sheeps' wool for their nests. I love spring.

Starlings in the eaves. Blue tits keep visiting the boxes including the one with the camera in but are not building a nest yet. A pair of Woodpigeons have built a very well hidden nest in the Ivy which covers an old birch tree in the next garden.

Carrion Crows have built a nest but I don't think she's laid eggs yet, as the two birds are either perched next to the nest or are busy chasing Magpies away.
Great Tit in and out of nestbox but not started buidling yet.
House Sparrows collecting nest material and disappearing into my roofspace, but again I don't think they are on eggs yet, as the females are still hanging around the hedge.

Magpie has built at the top of our pine tree and I think she is sitting, house sparrow using nestbox, wren lined a wicker pocket (not found a mate yet), great tit interested in another box but gets barracked by blue tit nesting in next doors garden. The blackbirds have paired up so probable nest in shrub down the side of the house and the othes will probably nest in next doors on the other side, I think the robin also nests in this garden also. A squirrel has built a drey in our other pine tree so there could be fun and games at some time.

Last years Blackbirds are back in our/neighbours garden, been building nest for last few weeks. Also Robins seem to be in the Holly Bush along with the Dunnocks. Magpies, Collared Doves and Wood Pigeons all been seen carrying nesting material out of the front garden and finally our Wren seems to be in the front Fir Tree again along with another pair of Dunnocks.
Also veiwable from our front window, Robins, Mistle Thrushes seem to be preparing nest on and around William Wroe Golf Course, Urmston and most days 2 or 3 GSW are spotted and heared hammering away, so they must be about to.

Hi all.
Does anyone yet have any birds nesting or starting to build a nest in their boxes or garden areas??
We have a box up and Bluetits used it last spring and they managed five out of seven chicks to fledge.
The same box is up, nothing else as altered and no signs of interest as yet! Am I being to quick to expect anything yet??
