Is anyone else having problems viewing the forum from their iphone ?
The website is fine but when I go into the forum itself, the layout has changed colour and when I click on "county bird sightings" it just takes me to what looks like the Sparklit home page where it says create forum etc. Its been like this since yesterday but its starting to annoy me now as I cant look at the forum while im out birding or at work!

Same happened to me earlier. After a few tries i eventually selected 'main site' and it went back to its normal format. All back to normal now thankfully.

Well the good news is that after the recent updates, the sorting problem has been fixed and the search facility now finds my two topics which have never shown up in the search before. I guess that must be true of others too.

That's an odd one. I read (have to) every post on the forum and can honestly say I've never noticed it before plus, on this occasion I received plenty of messages, texts and two calls letting me know about it

Just for general interest, here's the reply I received back from Sparklit for the comment order issue:
Hi Ian,
Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention!
We were applying some updates to ActiveBoard to improve database performance. We were unaware it would affect the sorting of comments but we've completed the upgrade and the comments appear to be sorting correctly.

Hi Ian,
last nights problems were across the board on the forum and was nothing to do with individual thread structure etc. The forum default setting is for newest threads to appear at the top (and has been for very nearly 5 years now) but individual users can go into their setting and set new posts to appear at the bottom if they prefer. Your choice . Either way the forum hosting company usually work very fast to sort such small issues.
Of course their is no right and wrong in forum aappearance but despite Birdforums huge popularity and appeal, in many cases the more the Manchester Birding forum can be different the better

Hmmm, it seems the forum has changed to newest posts at the bottom even though the forum default setting (and each individual users settings) remains for newest posts to be at the top. Needless to say, that means I haven't a clue what's going on but have passed it over to the forum hosting company to sort out.
Hopefully it will be rectified soon as I just cannot get used to scrolling all the way back down to the bottom of each thread!

Hi Ian,
I've received one possible solution from a local computer boffin on how to get the toolbar back when making a post and removing the BBcode editor thingy. However, in an effort to preserve the total anonymity of my adviser I have completely jumbled around with the letters of his name and his address, so that he can not under any circumstances be traced. Thanks to Makr Rigyb of Oldhma for suggesting that the toolbar can be recovered by going into settings and un-ticking the advanced editor box.
I trust it is in order to do this?
Regards,
Bill.

Tunnel vision Dave, or blinkered view depending which way you look at it. Nothing personal though as considering I'm out birding practically every day I very rarely post my own sightings on my own forum

The BBCode editor is a simple editing system (a 'what you see is what you get' system, ie no HTML necessary) not sure why it's come up though as it's not in the settings and must surely work automatically anyway. Dave's Wildlife forum also uses the same hosting company as me ('cos I put him on to it), so it's obviously with them somewhere along the line

The 'BBCeditorthingy' - to use the technical term- has also appeared on the 'post' box on the Wildlife site; but the toolbar is still there.

Don't know if this further bit of info helps? Since my post I have logged onto the forum on my mobile phone and looked to make a post and there I am still are able to get the toolbar and don't see the message about the BBcode editor. Possibly something to do with different operating systems?

I'll look into it Bill. I've only just noticed the BBCode editor thing, no idea what that is and its nothing to do with me! The forum's hosting company (in Canada) often make 'improvements' to the forums they host without letting us owners know

Hi Ian,
Not sure if it's just me but when I try to post now I'm not getting up the toolbar that allows you to bold, underline or insert a link along, with various other functions? Is it just me or have I missed something or has something changed?
Have noticed below the white box I now have something that says "The BBCode editor may be enabled from your member settings". Is this new and does it have something to do with it?
Apologies if these are a series of dim questions!
Best wishes,
Bill.

That's because IE has stopped "cheating". IE8 really is superb - but even microsoft have had to leave a compatability option so that old sites still work OK.
Others will have to do the same.
In the past, badly written HTML was "corrected" by browsers, but IE8 is now displaying HTML as is - with all the faults that coders left in because they don't follow strict guidelines. Web designers will just have to learn to code sites properly - e.g. stop using things like the bold tag "b" and use "strong" instead, stop using tables for display purposes etc. This is a good thing because of assistive technologies that are used to make sites accessible to visually impaired people.

Shouldn't be a flash problem - there's nothing on thesite that needs flash. iPhones cannot use flash anyway, and it displaysOK on my iPhone. Also displays fine for my on IE8 running on Windows 7.

adobi flash player in google its free, but it doasn't work on 64bit computers, the new windows 7 64 bit is a pain without adobi, its like going back 10 years, but 64 bit adobi will be coming soon,on all windows 7 comps ,there is 32 bit version of windows explorer use that and adobi is already in there. but theres nowt wrong with The Mancy site concerning adobi, has I tried 64 bit and 32 bit windows with no issues,so your problem is not adobi flash player as such, more likely you need your cache clearing, clear all your history and cookies etc and try C cleaner a free programe that will check your windows register in case you have a trojan or malware.
