with just over an hour to kill nipped in for a quick visit this pm on lake, 22 mute swan, 12 canada geese, loads of mallard and black headed gulls, wetland hide 1 mute swan, 1 little grebe, 6 coot, 5 mallard, 2 moorhen. feeding station, 1f great spotted woodpecker, willow tit, blue tit, great tit, coal tit, chaffinch, dunnock, robin, wren,reed bunting,wood pigeon, magpie, bullfinch, 5 blackbird 4m 1f and plenty of squabbling from the males.

Birds of note 1 Green Sandpiper Moorhen with 5 young ones 2 young Coots 2 Grey Herons 2 Jays 1 Common Buzzard Fantastic views of female Kestrel Darting back and forwards over the reserve. Saw it catch large brown Dragonfly and took it to fence post. It ate it ...discarding the wings.

2nd May 2013 4pm-5.30pm Glorious late afternoon and some fantastic news. The new metal hide is now open. It is open from 9.30am - 4.30pm approx.... Not sure about opening times yet for weekend. The site and the hide are managed by the Lancashire Wildlife Trust and they are having a sort of open day this Sunday 5th May at the boating lake information centre from 9.30-3.30. All are welcome and people can sign up as a volunteer or helper for any or all of the sites around Wigan. Or you can just receive news about the sites.

Hi . The Friends of Three Sisters look after the bird hide .I feed the birds with other Group members daily and buy the food . The Group has over 80 bird boxs up ,all different size holes for small birds plus ,Treecreeper,Kingfisher,Woodpecker and 2 Owl boxs ( 3 Tawny Owls chicks this year ), Also bat boxs and hedgehog dens . The Group is doing a few dead hedges also in woods . The Group will be planting 300 whips this year =130 Blackthorn .130 Hawthorn 10 Rowan 10 wild cherry 10 crab apple 10 dog wood = big tree event on 25 th nov and 2nd dec Tony Friends Group

spent a pleasant hour in the feeding station during heavy rain, loads of great and blue tit, willow tit, coal tit, chaffinch, dunnock, blackbird, jay, magpie, wood pigeon, nuthatch, great spotted woodpecker and a moorhen that thought it was a woodpecker kept going up a tree/bush at the back of the area and pecking at the bark woodpecker style also climbed onto one of the caged feeding tables and had itself a feast.

Feeding station,the usual selection of birds,but it,s back up and busythe feeders have been hung much closer to the screen and a table just 3 foot( or 1 metre if you like)from the screen allowing some cracking views.

Glorious late afternoon and some fantastic news.
The new metal hide is now open.
It is open from 9.30am - 4.30pm approx....
Not sure about opening times yet for weekend.
The site and the hide are managed by the Lancashire Wildlife Trust
and they are having a sort of open day this Sunday 5th May at the boating lake information centre
from 9.30-3.30.
All are welcome and people can sign up as a volunteer or helper for any or all of the sites around Wigan.
Or you can just receive news about the sites.

LWT are moving into Rangers office in Dec /Jan . so hide will be open mon till friday 9 till 4 .( new steel hide on wetlands )

loads of great and blue tit, willow tit, coal tit, chaffinch, dunnock, blackbird, jay, magpie, wood pigeon, nuthatch, great spotted woodpecker and a moorhen that thought it was a woodpecker kept going up a tree/bush at the back of the area and pecking at the bark woodpecker style also climbed onto one of the caged feeding tables and had itself a feast.

Feeding station,the usual selection of birds,but it,s back up and busythe feeders have been hung much closer to the screen and a table just 3 foot( or 1 metre if you like)from the screen allowing some cracking views.

much to my delight the Coots still have all 6 chicks and are busy building a new nest only 12 foot from the footpath one of the chicks was seen to helping with the construction even though it,s still in 'down' spiffing stuff.
