I've been really pleased to see a few species at Pennington but maybe I've been too quick to stick to the hides and the car park area - can anyone give me some pointers i.e. Little Gulls and Terns and the like - are these normally at distance on the flash itself and if so should I be walking round the west end - or is it just a case of circling the whole flash and checking everywhere?
Cheers, Peter

As you say, the blackcap was high in the hawthorn bush, this was singing low deep in vegetation. We have heard plenty of Nightingales on our annual trips to Minsmere. So fairly convinced, other than someones practical joke with a Tape recorder. Thats been done before

Garden Warbler? People often describe GW as being more 'flutey'than Blackcap. Not wanting to dismiss the possibility of a Nightingale mind, just using the old rule of starting with the commonest first.

The only place I have seen nightingales and heard was at blean Woods in kent, What surprised me on both occasions whilst blackcaps and chiffchaffs were very vocal high in the trees and bushes all the nightingales seemed to prefer much lower vantage points while singing. It might just be coincedence but it helped me identify them on my second visit there unfortunately I'm from the tone deaf department and have to rely on sight to identify

Nightingales have been arriving back to their stronghold in the UK in the S.E. over the last couple of days so an overshoot could be expected right now. To confirm the presence of this, a county rarity, I think more details would have had to be gained at the time of the singing. Pennington has had a record in the past though... Cheers. Henry.

7.00am this morning [loads better without all the dog walkers...] and the four LRP feeding on the newly exposed mud banks close in to the hide - a first for me and really interesting to watch them feed and they seemed to be pairing off. Then a Blackcap in full song at the far end of the car park - another first! GSW in the normal trees drumming nicely and a pair of Little Grebe plus at least four GCG.
One question mark was a Tuftie type duck from Teal Hide - looked heavy set when compared with the rest of the female tufties and had a lot of white at the base of the bill and front of the head. I was kind of thinking Scaup - anyone seen this individual and able to confirm Tuftie or not?
Cheers, Peter
