Female Tawny Owl calling from the side of the Joshua Bradley pub in Hyde between 8:15 - 9:30. A male was calling in the distance in the direction of the Bluebell centre. The female eventually appeared on the branch at the side of the pub and the male flew in to join her shortly after. My first Tawny of the year :) and managed to see another one close by making the total seen 3.

Was going to stop in case it was a rare spot and everyone had legged it down there!! Probably just a photography course on railway lines!

Good views of the Kittiwake today on both sides of Butts Bridge in Leigh. It was down to just a couple of feet at times, giving plenty of photo opportunities. The bird seems in good condition and happy enough on the canal, occasionally calling and taking flight when a barge passes. Nice to meet some of the regulars down there plus a couple of new photographers (Bernard and friend). Some photos are on Leigh Ornithological Society's new Facebook Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/leighos/

By 3pm today the Kittiwake was c100 yards from Butts Bridge and was steadily motoring further towards it, clearly its getting up and down this stretch of water but as its only relatively short anyway; if the bird's present its obvious enough.
Comparing the images I have of this current bird and the Pennington Flash and Rhodes Lodges birds of a few weeks ago, none are the same individual and they are all different, which isn't surprising really.

Of interest, the Kittiwake was not seen by Paul Brown at around 8.30am, was reported at being at Butts Bridge at around 10am and not there between 11am an 12noon when I went to have a look. Walked back this afternoon and it was there at 2pm. It does seem to disappear for periods although no idea of where it goes and why it returns to that particular area.
