They must've arrived early afternoon, I was there until 1200 and none were present. Still, other birds of note:
Bit disappointing as I was there for the Thrush Survey and only 4 turned up. I blame the frozen ground.

Lots of Teals at Broad Ees Dole and a couple of pairs of Shoveler. 1 Little Grebe.

Broad Ees Dole this morning: 2 well grown juv Little Grebes with adult close by + adult on nest with 2nd clutch presumably. Also 2 more non breeding adults at opposite end. 6 juv coots doing well from 2 families. Pretty quiet otherwise.

Blackcap & Common Whitethroat both in numbers everywhere! Couldn't hear the Lesser Whitethroat at the Brook Bridge .
In the meadow: 3 Sedge Warblers So many Reed Buntings Heard 1 Gropper faintly by the reedbed but it stopped before we approached. First time I've heard one this year. Yet to see one. Pair of what I assume to be Marsh Tits busy in an elder next to the reedbed. Not quite sharp enough to tell the diff between Marsh and Willow tit and there was no call/song. So assumption based on abundance. First in Greater Manchester for me. Lovely. 3 Reed Warblers being very obliging by flying up into the willows on the island. Got some great views. Bullfinch (m) GSW

1 Common Sandpiper 1 Little Ringed Plover Both still present when I left at 2.45 2 Tufted Duck 9 Gadwall 2 Shoveler 1 Kingfisher 1 Jay 6 Lapwing 2 Lesser Black-backed Gulls 3 Snipe One of the LB-b's managed to pinch a Canada's egg, then spent 15 minutes trying to break it by carrying it high in the air then dropping it on to the 'their' island. The egg cracked eventually and both gulls tucked in.

One of the LB-b's managed to pinch a Canada's egg, then spent 15 minutes trying to break it by carrying it high in the air then dropping it on to the 'their' island. The egg cracked eventually and both gulls tucked in.

3 Sacred Ibis were seen at Moore NR on 25th March. Perhaps the same birds moving up the Mersey.
