Hi, Are they DEFINITELY willow tits that you always see at Bunting Hide? I'm no expert, more a hopeless beginner, and I am rubbish with colours, but there is definitely some yellow on those birds (says my wife) and the RSPB says "no yellow" for them. Anybody confirm or clarify? They just look brighter than the ones you see in books and websites. Cheers, Phil
BTW: Nice view of foxes yesterday at Pennington.

Lovely views of 2 green sandpiper from Teal Hide (a first for me!!!) along with 2 LRP + 1 juv - managed to get some nice photos of all! Also plenty of Lapwing, tufted ducks, 1 oystercatcher and 3 heron.
Not much more than the usual from Horrock's - oodles (technical term!!) of Lapwing with canada geese and black headed gulls and the usual ducks. Also several GC Grebes.
Bullfinches (inc some juveniles which had me guessing for a while), Marsh Tit (I think), Blue Tit, Great Tit, Robin, Dunnock, Moorhen all seen at feeding station as well as 2 rats. One of the rats was in the top of the tree stump just in front of the hide which was a lovely photo opportunity!!!!

It's great to be able to announce that Pennington Flash's new 'flagship' hide is to be opened imminently. Full details are on the County Notice Board pages of the website (along with loads of other stuff, hands up those that still didn't realise there was a Manchester Birding website ), complete with photos to wet your appitite. It really will be an excellent addition to Pennington and to the county.
I was lucky enough to get a sneek preview a couple of weeks ago and was able to manage Garganey and Lesser Whitethroat from it's plush interior.

Had an hour visit late this afternoon. Got back to my car around 5.30pm to find that the passenger window had been smashed and a few things stolen from the glove box. I had parked at the 'free' lay-by, just before the narrow one way bridge a place where I have parked hundred of times before. As always, nothing was on show to tempt anyone. Luckily, a motorist had come past at the time, had scared off two lads on bikes and then reported the incident to the ranger. When I got to the car, the motorist returned to tell me what had happened and the ranger then appeared. Many thanks to him - he took my details and got in touch with the police who have since rung me. I'll not be parking there again!!

saw and photographed the kingfisher at teal hide tonight along with a single little grebe 3 lrp and a very patient heron which stood for the whole time we were there motionless looking into the water. What looked like a little gull here for a short time which i totally missed taking a picture of! Horrocks seemed to be lapwing heaven, well in excess of 50 on the spit alone! Several juv black headed gulls around tonight also most of the usual friendlies around.

I entered the Tom Edmondson hide yesterday, Monday 15th 1.15pm, to hear I'd just missed a kingfisher. So I waited 20 mins and was rewarded by its return. It was around the far left hand portion of water in relation to the sleeping mallards and tufted ducks, flew into a shrub on a mini island to the right of that area of water, dived into the water, and then flew the length of the water to the left of the ducks, right across the front of the hide. Also a brief sighting 15 mins later. 2 Swans, most probably those that recently nested to the right of the hide were present with three cygnets.
Almost but not quite makes up for missing the osprey by 20 mins the week before last.

Late afternoon - I found a pair of Shelduck with 4 ducklings in front of Horrocks Hide. I'm pretty sure these are the same as those at Lightshaw Hall Flash, and the parents have brought their brood down the Hey Brook - probably about 1km. Lightshaw was drying out yesterday, and I didn't see the family there, either. The ducklings are about the right age for those - I first saw them 29th. Six Black Terns when I was there around 4pm but at least 3 were at the west end of the flash and out of sight from Horrocks hide - I was watching from yacht club to begin with.
