Ollie, there's always something to confuse everything with I'm afraid. It could quite easily have been a Spotted Flycatcher but as you're (rightly) reluctant to claim it I'd always just note it as a possible and nothing more. Spotted Flycatchers are usually obvious by their actions as much as anything else but given yesterdays weather one might not have been as active.

Hi, am just after some advice from more experienced birders... I'm pretty sure I saw a Spotted Flycatcher this morning in Kenworthy Woods. In the bushes, not far after you enter the woods from Chorlton WP. Larger than a Blue Tit. Dull-brownish back, paler front with some perceptible black streaking on the sides of the breast. Perched on a branch for some time for me.
I can't think what else it might have been, but am reluctant to claim it, as I've never seen one before and am unsure whether it's likely to occur in these parts at this time of year. Is there anything that the species is easily confused with?
Apart from that, a quiet, beautiful morning - enlivened by a brief view of a male Bullfinch, who darted onto the path whilst I was watching a blackbird splash about in a puddle.
Thanks!

Thanks!
