11 in an Ash tree across the railway line from Tesco in Altrincham, then flew towards Oakfield Road where they seemed to go down. Went over there for a look and heard them calling briefly from the leisure centre but couldn't see them - there's a very long, low pyracantha hedge opposite. Edit - this was about 3pm.

Re: the Delaheys Rd/Grove Lane Timperley birds.
I pass this location every day and have been looking out for Waxwings to drop in all winter as there was a flock here 2 years ago feeding on the cotoneaster here. I couldn't remember exactly when, so I checked back through previous records on this thread and found that they were present on 18th Feb 2011 (almost exactly the same time of year!) This cotoneaster has been heavily laden all winter and hardly touched (as it was in 2011 I seem to remember). I think this is only touched when the more favoured Rowan berries have been used up. So consequently late winter seems to be the best time for Waxwings in this location it seems! - Just a theory!
Still plenty of berries as I passed this evening but no sign of the birds.

Visited Wigan yesterday...the Waxwings were able to settle on the berry tree ( off Mesnes St ) to feed at intervals. As previously stated, the area is very busy, with lots of delivery vehicles etc. The birds would feed briefly, with a percentage of the flock visiting the tree each time. There are still plenty of berries for the birds to eat and considering current weather conditions, there is potential that they will stay around and feed.
The BHF Shop has an upstairs floor with a large window facing onto the tree. The views from there were great, with the birds often flying towards the window and over the roof of the shop (hence bird flying into the window the other day) They were using trees nearby, to settle in between feeding.( also mentioned in previous posts)

There was a flock on Moorfield Road in Salford today at 1pm on telegraph wires. I was really surprised to see them, which is why I have found this forum and I can't believe how many there are in Greater Manchester. There must have been around 40 that I saw they just landed for a few moments and then took off again. Hope they come back.
