Nothing much of interest recently apart from the Snow goose, no doubt an escapee, but it's interesting that it has no rings and is wings look perfect. I would love to know where it came from (and I don't mean from an egg).
It vanished without a trace during my rounds, but a report has it that it was seen again just before 9am?
Also, the usual highlights:
Sedge warbler Willow warbler Blackcap heard singing Swift Swallow Sand martin House martin Lapwing
Also of note, the first Black headed gull Juveniles were present yesterday. As well as this morning.
Two hours early Sunday morning. Highlights were goosander on the Irwell, water rail along the canal at the Goyt, singing warblers galore including cettis warbler seen and heard at the Weir between Elton and the Irwell. Tawny owl calling at 6.00 in broad daylight somewhere around Crow Trees Farm. I was down at the canal by that stage watching a chiffchaff.
