Yesterday: A nice bright Grey Wagtail in outflow channel.
Spotted Flycatcher on the west side of the narrow neck in hawthorns at 5pm.
Also 12 Snipe present.

I stopped to observe 9 juveniles on wire being fed by on the wing parents. Pied Wagtail....5 including 1 juv.

This pm up to 4.45 at Main Lodge. Fine with a few rain spots.
Black-tailed Godwit...1 this bird was not popular on south island and was harassed by several other species. Often flew off the island but always returned. Common Snipe...1 Grey Partridge...4 Sparrowhawk...1 great views as it flew, low over the crops in front of me and perched up. Male. Common Terns....5 Tufted Duck...3 Great Crested Grebe....1 carrying a single large chick, and one sitting in another new spot. Lots of Lapwing juvs.

1.40pm today:
Great views of a Kingfisher fishing off the stone overflow lintel at the dam. On arrival this bird was in dispute, with what was probably a second Kingfisher which flew away. A charm of c32 Goldfinch on thistle by the footpath to Tempest Court. Pied Wagtail...1

An hour this morning at the the Dam end and 2 hours this afternoon at the lodge. Fine but breezy.
Willow Tit...3 including at least one juvenile. Nuthatch... constant activity; difficult to count but at least 5 Pied Wagtail...11 Great Crested Grebe...7 One of the recent brooding birds is now carrying very small chicks; difficult to count but 2 fell off, and I think that might be it; chicks being fed by male. One bird still sitting, and the first family with 2 maturing chicks, but still getting piggy backs, in good order. Common Terns...6 including the 2 young: still being fed by parents so I stayed well away. Lapwing...80+ Wren...2 Grey Heron....1 Swifts...2 a few Swallows and just 2 each of House martin and Sand Martin

Last evening around 8.30, walk with dog.
The Common Sandpiper was resting, in the middle of the Dam Channel, on a stump of wood. It's normal feeding margins being under water. Along the path, 2 Greenfinch made a playful duet. 5 Mallards only at the Lock Lane Flood. And only 2 Swallows out the rest tucked away.
