I had a wonder up & down the river from metrolink/canal bridge to jacksons boat this morning from 8.30-11am, only grebes on the river were 2 little grebes also 2 goosanders, just like the doc and nev says very muddy
main lake...

Yep luckily I chose wellies as footwear of choice but walking down the cobble slope near Jackson's Baot I nearly went for a burton, just mnaged to stay upright - mud rather than drink to blame!! Yep lots of folk out in the sun & as you say loads of swimming dogs. Shame I missed you, Nev, we could have teamed up for the search. Hope that it was a good report so that it may get refound

Report on pagers today of a Red-necked Grebe on the R.Mersey next to Sale WP at 1.30pm, came on the pager at 1.43pm so I hot-footed (or drove!!) down to get there not too long afterwards. I parked at Jackson's Boat & walked left along the river att the way to the bridge at the top end of the water park but only a Grey Wagtail to show for my efforts. Then I walked round Sale WP and checked all pools (Broad Ees Dole etc) but bets bird was a drake Goosander. A couple of breeding plumaged Great-crested Grebes were on the main lake as well as a couple of Little Grebes, also one Little Grebe was on the river. On the way back I carried on past Jackson's Boat and did a fair part of the strecth towards Chorlton WP but still no Red-necked Grebe.
I rang ther pager but they hadn't got a clear record of where the report originated, wonder if anyone has any further info on here, if anyone knows then I reckon a Manchester Birding Forum member will

Main lake 0710-0910 had a brilliant morning with Kingfisher heard (seen the same time yesterday), Mandarin also present (first time i've seen one here, bit unusual?) and the highlight was that one of the pairs of Great Crested Grebes have hatched a pair of young and were giving them piggybacks around the lake.

Stonechat still along the River Mersey at 4:10pm, now in the Sale WP side about 300m upstream from the railway bridge. It has been taking winged insects from the surface of the river; bigger than gnat but smaller than lacewing. There was also a female present earlier and a Meadow Pipit at same location.
