Nice to have met up with Pete Hines this morning.
Water about 80% frozen with 2 main pockets of open water near the islands. Pretty much the same as Pete's post below but did not see any Redpoll.
Also on Barlow Tip:- 1 Woodcock (dropped down in the 'enclosed area' on left of path going towards the Gas plant) Female kestrel enjoying a meal (could not make out what it was eating as I did not want to get too close).
Nuthatch on feeder by car park.

24 Goldeneye came into roost earlier this evening 40 approx Goosander - very impressive especially at dawn before weekend disturbance kicks in. Disturbance today was the worst since last summer. Over the course of the day 1000+ joggers and similar no of bikes going around and around. Add in the chainsaws and tree-felling by the wildlife pool and it was surprising there was anything around.
Sad to see several visitors with bins looking a bit disappointed If visiting at weekend best before 10am or 1 hr before dusk.

25 Waxwings flew east to the Merseybank Estate, low over the car park calling, at 15.24. A quick mooch after work located another 8 (from Merseybank Avenue) flying over Princess Road A5103, which appeared to drop down behind the MacDonalds at 16.03. I didn't locate any on drive around the back streets there.

Had a quick look on the lake today - on the unfrozen pond in the centre, amongst the Goosander, Goldeneye, Pochard and Tufties (plus one Gt Crested Grebe), was a black aythya duck with a white flash high on its side. I'm guessing this was some sort of hybrid.
Other than that, nipped up to Kenworthy - had a Buzzard low overhead and a group of six male Bullfinches.

Not too much about 9.00am - 10.00:
Fox seen on tip
Tiny patch of open water on the WP, same as Tony, but it also contained a few canada geese and at least 4 common gulls were on the ice. c.30 siskin with a handful of goldfinch, feeding in the alders on the mersey side of the WP. Fox ran across the ice, the full width of the WP, though ignored the waterfowl - could well have been a different one than seen earlier Male Bullfinch
2 female goldeneye, 2 little grebe and a few mallard on the mersey - which was carrying large chunks of ice, and iced over at the sides. Pair of kestrel also seen.
3 bullfinch - 2m and 1 f - on the meadows.

Disturbance today was the worst since last summer. Over the course of the day 1000+ joggers and similar no of bikes going around and around. Add in the chainsaws and tree-felling by the wildlife pool and it was surprising there was anything around.
Sad to see several visitors with bins looking a bit disappointed If visiting at weekend best before 10am or 1 hr before dusk.

Plenty of ducks on the Mersey - Goldeneye, Goosander, Teal and Mallard
Large mixed flock of small birds - approx 4 Chaffinch, 8 Goldfinch, 4 LT Tits, 6 Redpoll and maybe 20 Siskin
Not too much about 9.00am - 10.00:
Fox seen on tip
Tiny patch of open water on the WP, same as Tony, but it also contained a few canada geese
and at least 4 common gulls were on the ice.
c.30 siskin with a handful of goldfinch, feeding in the alders on the mersey side of the WP.
Fox ran across the ice, the full width of the WP, though ignored the waterfowl - could well have been a different one than seen earlier
Male Bullfinch
2 female goldeneye, 2 little grebe and a few mallard on the mersey - which was carrying large chunks of ice, and iced over at the sides. Pair of kestrel also seen.
3 bullfinch - 2m and 1 f - on the meadows.
Everything else keeping low, small mobile flock of Goldfinch, a few Blackbirds in the leaf litter and a single Kestrel
7 Bullfinch - end of Fairy Lane, 3 more in corner of Orchard
1 Sparrowhawk (male) chased off by 1 Kestrel(female) next to Bailey Bridge
11 Wrens in a single flock by wildlife pool at 4.30pm - possibly using one of the nest boxes ?
