From Tom Edmondson Hide, four snipe in good view, plus wigeon, teal shoveler and gadwall. Flock of around 20 long-tailed tits just outside.
One male and eight female goosander on what's left of the central island from Teal Hide.
Two goldcrests in the trees at the end of the path heading back from Teal Hide, first time I've seen them at Penny, plus a brief glimpse of a fieldfare in the trees further back. Sparrowhawk over.
Good flock of redwings and thrushes in the trees near the picnic tables, plus goldfinches.
(At least) two nuthatch visiting the feeding station, plus the usual tits and finches.
Great afternoon with the little un practising her ID skills Altho got a tad annoying when she kept whispering "nuthatch nuthatch nuthatch" every time one came into view

Despite the poor weather limiting things somewhat, it was nice to spend a couple of hours at Pennington in October for a change, (with the bonus that I could duck into some of the hides in case of rain).
I did record a Green Sandpiper from Teal hide, with 1 drake Goosander and about 6 or so females, at about 14.30. The Green Sand. (or just possibly another), was showing later at 15.10 from the new Rammy's hide. A drake Wigeon was on show from the Edmondson Hide, otherwise pretty standard fare, (though I hadn't recorded Nuthatch here before; - 2 were at the feeding station).

Simon,
It wasn't a Yellow browed. I saw one of those last week in Burnley. The bird I saw was of a similar size but darker.
I was only a few yards away from it but only had a view of a few seconds before it flew off.

Fairly quiet this morning whilst I had a quick mooch from 9.15am - 10.30am.
Highlights were:
Grey Wagtail (Teal Hide) 4 Goldcrest outside Teal hide and a small warbler that I only got a quick glimpse of that looked a little like a Willow warbler but smaller and had a really noticable eye stripe. Tried to re-locate it after it moved but no joy.
Also, quite a good few Redwing buzzing around.

Called in for half an hour again after work today. There was at least one kingfisher present; a sparrowhawk flew down the middle of the Flash; two redwing, a grey wag, a jay and a calling redpoll flew over; two goldcrests mouched around the willows by the pond and a water rail called a couple of times.
