I rang the RSPB today to enquire about their camera setup etc etc and I understand that a new one is installed at the 2009 site giving good clear images. The system was turned on today and I am happy to say that one egg has been laid. I am not sure when the webcam pics will go online but it will be fairly soon I hope. Anyway looking forward to our female peregrine laying 3 more eggs.

Since there is a possibility I will not be working there for much longer you can count on it
BTW in case you are not aware Manchester City Council to their credit installed a top quality nest tray a few years ago and it is superb having been built by Colin Brooks to blend in with the architecture. I only wish it were a little higher but there were problems getting permissions with the building being listed.

I was in Manchester shopping today and decided to have a look for the Peregrines.
Between 11.20 and 11.40 in the rain the female was perched on the Premier Inn and as I watched her the male arrived and landed on the cathedral. Sadly I didn't have time to watch them any longer but both birds were still present when I left.

The female in particular has been having a ball this morning in the wind, ranging mainly between the Town Hall and old nest site.
I do wonder if there is some element of display in the activity.

Just seen an adult bird floating in the gales over the St Peter's Square. Lovely to watch it expertly using the wind to drift around with very little wing movement .
Not seen any for a while in the city centre, so nice to see one back over this end of town.

Becoming more visible again.
Favourite perches that I can see are the Town Hall and Premier Inn (workmen on Arndale probably keeeping them off there).
Also becoming regular but far from daily on the Lowry Hotel in the early morning when, were the light better, you'd get great views!

Just had a juv bird fly past my office window (Peter House) and land on the roof of the derelict office building opposite. I couldn't quite read the ring on its leg, but it was red and think it had a number 7 on it. It pranced about on the roof picking at stones and other muck, running from side to side, before perching on the concrete and jumping off 15 minutes later.
Lovely to watch it so close and always handy having a pair of office binoculars so my colleagues got to enjoy the sight too!

That's good news.
I suppose that the mirror glass is just a man made problem that the birds have to face for choosing the City Centre.
Were they in "wilder" habitat there would be other dangers facing them that are missing at the top of the CIS.
