There are definately good numbers of House Sparrows along Chestunt Drive in winter Judith. I have a couple of friends who live along there and have seen them myself, besides the good numbers currently along the Glaze at Hope Carr there. No doubt there may be Tree Sparrows as well though as I've seen plenty flying over the rugby club at Pennington over the winter months heading into the Pennington 'estate' area.

A flock of 9 Green Sandpipers together at Hope Carr tonight, also singing Grasshopper Warbler, Reed WArebler, Sedge Warbler. A local resident who lives on Chestnut Drive told me he gets up to 20 Tree Sparrows in his garden in winter but no House Sparrows. Didn't get to the main lakes due to the usual yobs hanging out there.

Very quiet bird wise this morning. Very noisy due to the racket the 50 plus Jackdaws were making. The island on Willow Pond full of young Jackdaws. Highlight of walk 8 young pheasants only a couple of days old following mother across path between the settling ponds.

Fri 28th May -early evening
Quiet - water levels very low - absense of both Swans and Canada Geese. Plenty of Warblers - Willow Warbler, Whitethroat, Blackcap, Chiffchaff, Sedge Warlber.
Plus one exotic looking duck which I'm guessing must be an escapee - (In better light on Sat morning looks like a very light coloured Muscovy)

Raymond, these would more than likely have been the 15 Black-Tailed Godwits which were reported on the Pennington sightings board as flying East!!
Cheers

A Raven circled over Hope Carr at 13:22 today and then continued west. As I was making my way from there to Pennington anyway, as I passed the fire station on the AtherLeigh by-pass it was circling low over the fields opposite and then flew over the car by only about 40 feet and continued westerly!
