63 in a garden opposite the car park at Orrell Water Park this morning. This garden has now held considerable numbers of Waxwings for a month due to food being placed out specifically for them so I would ask anyone visiting to please be considerate and keep a sensible distance (preferably the opposite pavement) from the birds.
Numbers ringed at this site have now exceeded 80 (!) and new, unringed, birds continue to be drawn in to the provision of apples and berries for them. Local Sparrowhawks have now realised the potential food source too (the Waxwings, not the apples ) and occasionally disturb the flock which means they're now not always present.

** PLEASE NOTE **
This flock of Waxwings is being fed by a local birder (at his own not inconsiderable expense!) and has been for while now. The birds are settled in the area only because of the provision of food, feeding on and off for much of the day but are very easily disturbed by close-approaching humans. The flock also includes an Estonian ringed bird (ringed in November 2012) and a colour-ringed Edinburgh bird.
Visitors to view the birds must use the Water Park car park and view from the opposite pavement to the gardens when the bird are present in them. Please consider the local residents privacy and be as tactful and discrete as much as possible when viewing the birds as you'll be looking into their windows most of the time but they are aware of the birds and their attraction and are fairly understanding about it all. Any approach towards the gardens will flush the birds and they may not reappear for some time as has been the case. Please don't walk down the side of the houses to view (or knock on doors as has been the case) as residents have asked birders not to.

Finally! The berry-laden tree I've been keeping an eye on all winter has hosted a flock of waxwings (20+). The tree is located in a garden at the rear of City Gardens (the continuation of Town Lane) Denton. The birds have been flying to and from taller trees in the overgrown old tip behind the garden - access from City Avenue. They weren't spooked when I approached within 10 feet (3.05metres). Sadly all my photos are contra-jour showing little of the beautiful markings.
At 10.30am the birds flew off NW towards Windmill Lane - possibly to some berry trees on local industrial estate.
