050723....not quite the Moss...but on behalf of the Moss
In my lifespan today was a milestone....
Another day of pleading the case on behalf of the Moss against the in my opinion aggressive developers (destroyers of wildlife habitat) who under
the banner of P(Planning) f(for) E(Everyone) wish to build Warehouses on Barton Moss and Houses on Chat Moss (near Irlam Station)....
This (continuing) hearing was in Manchester in front of Three Government Appointed Inspectors who are examining the case put forward by GMCA (Greater Manchester Combined Authority---representing 9 of the GM authorities---Formally GMSF which represented all 10 but when Stockport pulled out the plan was changed to PfE....I could go on...
I was with a constituted group formed in 2013 known as AARD (Action Against Rural Development) in my 'role' as wildlife representative....we have been before the inspectors before both in lockdown on Zoom....in Feb this year at the Manchester Venue....the AARD few (five of us) have offered many hours/days/weeks up of their time to fight to save the moss...at Laptops/in public meetings and so on...
Personally I have more than a few files of objections and observations (to Local Development Plans through to today's Pfe) which when I look back started in 1989 when the 'Mossland Strategy' was published...
I never really liked or enjoyed speaking in public/at these hearings but I felt that we who love our wildlife our patches are obliged to give back our time in such causes and in sending in records to GMEU/GMBRG for us to at least 'try' to get the voice of wildlife heard...
Today as ever we were up against the TOP KC's money can buy BUT we tried...
It's over now and I am wearied of the effort....BUT whatever the outcome....(!!!)...we can say we tried...
Dave.
In re-reading this summary of efforts made by the few for our beleaguered wildlife I started to weep...I know I'm of an age when this behaviour comes too readily BUT when I KNOW how much has been lost in this fleeting lifetime I despair that this onslaught grinds on...
