10.00-4.15pm 54species seen. 1 greater scaup as i arrived showing well but sleeping & still there when i left at 4.15pm still sleeping east side/car park. 1 sparrowhawk (male) watched for 20 mins at lapwing hide relaxing/preening in the sun. 2 kestrels 2 great spotted woodpeckers 1 pied wagtail 1 pintail 12 wigeons 3 goosanders 8 little grebes 18 goldeneye 2 shovelers plus lots off the usual ducks. few redwings around, 1 showing well at bunting hide along with 1 song thrush, 4 willow tits plus all the usual birds there. massive gull roost as i was leaving. nice to see some familiar faces,also nice to meet lee griffiths
also had 1 treecreeper, close view on the path leading from st helens rd to atherliegh way next to sports village. plus pink footed geese over.

Scaup still present when I left at 10.30 this morning, preening and sleeping a lot, in the same area as yesterday. 14 Widgeon 2 Kingfishers (1 from Edmonson & 1 from Pengys) 1 Little Grebe 20 Goldeneye 12 Shoveler Willow Tit from Bunting Hide And lots of the usuals on a nice bright morning.

Arrived at lunchtime today only for the heavens to open as soon as I got out if the car. Not to be deterred though I had a nice three hour jaunt around the hides with John Tymon, Charlie Owen and Mark Rigby for company.
Greater Scaup finally relocated just off the car park after being moved from the east bay by a boat. 10 Gooseander - five in Rammies, five on Teal scrape. c30 Goldeneye - good numbers of them in Rammies. 1 Snipe - Edmonson hide
All the other usual birds too.

FOR ANYONE DOING A NEW YEARS DAY LIST The male scaup was still in the se bay all afternoon today and asleep in the very se corner at dusk. quite a big gull roost tonight also,at one point containing 70+ greater black backed gulls.

Egyptian Goose low over causeway from Horrocks Hide, putting up all the Lapwings which didn't seem to recognise it as harmless. 2.45
Seen again an hour or so later on opposite shore nr Sailing Club, on its own at edge of Flash. Flew off high.

Wednesday am November 21st quick flit between other engagements!
I were chuffed with the Goldcrests - not seen any before, and they flew into the bushes right to the right side of the hide for a few seconds. Nice close up. Too quick for a photo though!

Great hour or so yesterday (Saturday) morning with my 7 year old daughter. We visited all but one of the hides and saw at least 25 different birds, the highlights being:
And all the other usual. Thanks to young Cunliffe who logged all the birds. After the bird watching she let off steam on the park so (pardon the pun) two birds killed with one stone

We went today, but did not see the Pintail, still had a good time. Very good views of the Snipe, and an exceptionally distant view of two Goldeneye. Two female Goosander from one hide, and 16 Greenfinch in one feeder cage at the Bunting Hide. Managed a Kingfisher from Tom Ed. Hide.
All the usual stuff around.

First post here just to say thanks to you folks for your postings over the past couple of weeks. It really helps a newbie like me to get the feel of what I MIGHT be able to see at the Flash!
So ... last week saw my first Pennington kingfisher from Tom Edmundson's and this week clocked my first ever sightings of Redwings (brilliant birds!) on the hawthorns near the canal embankment, and TODAY, my first ever Snipe which was sleeping very unobtrusively on the edge of the spit from Horrocks's.

A dull evening gull roost up to dusk tonight (with only half a dozen large gulls!) was enlivened by:
28 Collared Doves roosting in conifers by the yacht club. Drake Pochard x Tufted Duck hybrid in Rammies. 84 Pink-footed Geese very low west at 16:20 seemed to drop into the Lightshaw area. c400 Jackdaw in the south side roost Water Rail squealing at Sorrowcow Farm pond with a Kingfisher showing very well too.
