Wow Juvenile Curlew Sandpiper showing really well by the sailing club 7pm at least, sometimes as close as 30 feet, its not feeding on the waters edge but favouring the wet areas near the orange fence. Its with 16 Ringed Plover, Dunlin and 1 Common Sand. Makes up for missing the two adults in June, and a juvenile is much better looking with its subtle tones and buffish sides, get in

20 minute visit early this morning revealed nothing of note bird wise. Water level up about a foot with water gushing in near the boathouse and in the creek - the stream cannot be crossed! Also, there is a small boat tied up below the pump house which appears to have a large fishing net in it - so fish removal would seem imminent.

30/8/09 3.5 hour sweep with the boys, not quite the red letter day as last year but not without incident,

The Creek was alot better with one hell of a tit flock, never seen so many birds in one flock here before, huge numbers of Blue and Great tits, even had 3 coal tits which are not that common at Elton, the flock also consisted of at least 30 Long Tailed tits, 6+ Chiffchaff, 5(2 male) Blackcap feeding on the elderberries along with 2 Lesser Whitethroat. That Barred Warblers gotta be in there somewhere, anyone got a mist net..
