Thanks to Barry Hulme and Bill Harrison for pointing out the Black Tern for me, even though it was distant from Horrocks Hide and quite mobile. Nice to meet them both at last after seeing their names many times on this forum. We had a good chat.
I also saw two Green Sandpipers and a single male eclipse Shoveler at Ramsdale's Hide, a nesting Great Crested Grebe on the kidney pond and a couple more Green Sandpipers at Teal Hide. The Coots seem to have had a pretty good year if nothing much else has.
Nice to bump into Jon Taverner again too, who for once was cameraless.

Sorry guys, but do we have to reduce the superb Red-necked Grebe to a mere RNG? We all rightly took much joy from seeing it so surely it deserves us at least taking the time to give its full name
A petty point perhaps but this forum has previously been through the needless abbreviation period and come through it all the better for it

Got there at circa 2.45 - bagged the Red Necked Grebe, a super bird, a lifer for me, to the right of the spit, plus two Common Terns showing well and feeding one another. A mother guided her ducklings onto the spit, which was another highlight. All the usual culprits made up the rest of the viewing, with three Stock Dove feeding at Bunting Hide.
Also:
1 Kingfisher briefly (Pengy's), plus a raptor here which showed briefly on a tree top and dropped over before it could be IDd 1 Common Sandpiper (Ramsdale - was lucky to see it given how overgrown it is in front of the hide)
Nice to meet Chris Dorney when I went back at close of play, where a sleepy Red necked Grebe was still present, showing better tha last time to the left of the spit amongst the usual GreatcrestedGrebe
