A delivery up at Norden enabled me to take a lunch break at the side of Ashworth Moor Res. Approx 2.30pm... On Res: 9 Lesser Black-backed Gulls 3 Goosander 2 Black-headed Gulls 2 Canada Goose ...and an uncountable number of Swallows, possibly up to 100 maybe more
In the valley opposite the Res stone wall: Still more Swallows 1 foraging male Ring Ouzel (too far away for a shot) A few Jackdaws 1 Buzzard ( over ) 1 male Wheatear Pied Wagtails Meadow Pipits
Colin, what time was the Red Kite? That would've made my day!

Red Kite x 1 drifted over east from the Harden Moor area (Rossendale) and over the reservoir.

2 x Pied Wagtail 3 x Meadow Pipit A stonking male Wheatear...vivid colours so query Greenland race? Lots of Lesser Black Backed Gulls on the resevoir with a couple of Canada Geese for good measure
First Wheatear of the year here for me this morning. Pair of Stonechat in a regular spot.

Common Scotor on the res first thing this morning.. Water levels risen again unfortunately.. Very late posting for 25th July. Yellow-legged Gull in with the Lesser Black-backed Gulls on the Res banking.. Flew off north with all the other hundreds of Gulls..

Black Redstart seen at 12.10pm at the site previously reported,showing very well.You have to be lucky with this bird,as I had joined a birder who had been waiting for 40mins.without luck.He left,and I waited a further 1/2 hour and was getting ready to leave when the bird appeared.[Another birder had joined me.He had just walked from further down the overflow channel and hadn't seen it down there.]The bird stayed around,apparently feeding ,[or drinking,or both],on the floor of the overflow channel of the Reservoir.It was unclear from which direction the bird had come in the first place. Wrap up warm and wear boots,and good luck!
