John, You must have misheard me. My flock of fieldfare was of 62. Also heard tree sparrow and green woodpecker, and saw sparrowhawk which flushed the fieldfare from the rowans. In behaviour I haven't seen before, three or four fieldfare then made individual swoops at the hawk as it retreated.

Trying to catch some of the 'Horwich effect' this morning, and not too bad really.
April cottage;
1 spotted flycatcher 1 common whitethroat 1 blackcap m

Quarry area
2 whinchat (moulting/very worn male, plus 1 fem/juv) 1 Green woodpecker
Also around-
c15 chiffchafffs over the whole area. 1 other common whitethroat on Derbyshire side of bridleway (but flew towards Grt. M/c). 3 reed buntings also there. 1 golden plover over 'red throat' field, 6 ravens close to border near pylons crossing SSSI, 1 skylark (sad), other usuals, plus butterflies, dragonflies, it was very good.

Late post for yesterday.
Not much different from what John had though sadly I missed the Redstart and Whinchat.
The main differences were on my jaunt up to the woods at Brownlow where I had;
Lots of Butterflies/Dragonflies on other wildlife.

I made the mistake of heading to Ludworth yesterday and spent most of my time dodging showers, after the third shower I gave in and headed home, sadly no Redstart or Stonechat to show for my troubles.
Today however, being a much better day weather wise, was also a better day birding-wise as I managed to catch up with the male Redstart

Sorry John I've only just seen these posts. That is where I saw it (not at the Robin Hood pikes bit, at the higher bit on the same path with the 2 sets of stiles - a well trodden stoney path is crossed by another path which goes from the back of Coombes Rocks to Rowarth - from your post it looks like you were at the right place). Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. It was 3 feet away from me befor it flew and unmistakable. I hope its still there.

Three of us gave it a couple of hours tonight. Nothing unusual seen.
John Tromans and Jim Edwards covered to Far Slack Farm. I went higher and (I think) found the 2 stiles described by Rob.
I was in the area on the path to the Picking Rods where the paths first divide by the piles of stones about 12 30pm yesterday.I saw an interesting small brown bird but only saw it's back on a post in the field to the right.It made a few high looping flights, without any sound.before returning to the posts and then flew away..

A number of people have contacted me over this but, as far as I know, only two have been to investigate. Last evening they had an 'interesting' bird flying away, which landed in thistles and wasn't seen again. The frontal parts of the bird were not seen But only a couple of hundred metres from Rob's site.
I am going to have a look myself tonight and the more eyes the better. If anyone wishes to join me I will be at the junction of Gun Road and the track up to the Picking Rods at 7pm.

There are two crossroads of footpaths in that area. They are only a couple of hundred metres apart but do you mean the one that is nearer to Robin Hood's Picking Rods?

Further up towards Coombes Rocks from the previous place there is a place where footpaths cross (one goes from Rowarth to Coombes Rocks and the other from the main road towards the farm houses). It was sat on a post right at these cross paths (there are 2 stiles).
Its still there if anyone didn't get chance to see it!

John's starling flock seems to have grown beyond 50 by a sizable margin, but as they were in and out of the trees around April cottage it was difficult to ascertain how many there were.
