Some fantastic views of birds this week including several delayed food passes which I took to be adult birds enticing juveniles in to chasing them.

Did my first full days volunteering today after a little trial last tuesday. Had a great day with lots of sightings of the birds, watched 1 juvenile sat on the very top of the arndale instead of the letters and had a clear view of its ring which was 'AC'. Was also great to work with Ella and Jo and talking to the public about the birds :)

the last time i saw the four together was last saturday 25th,plenty off activity between them and the adult male whilst the adult female was near the nest site. been around this evening between 6-7pm and only seen adult female + 1 juvenille near nest site, they do seem to be wandering off a bit more now.

7.30pm tonight. Saw 4 of the birds on a ledge near to the nest site squabbling over a prey item that appeared to be either a gull or a White coloured Pigeon. At first i thought it was all 4 chicks, however it turned out to be the female feeding 3 of the chicks. Looking at the build of the chicks it looked like 2 females and 1 male. Whilst this was going on another bird flew at the back of the building but never re appeared. I think this was possibly the adult male. If it was the other chick i'd have thought it would have joined the others. I was watching for about an hour but no sign of the 4th chick.
Have we lost one ???

Agreed.
A fantastic day today with birds in the air almost constantly and some great dog-fighting.Yesterday two of the young had a concerted if unsuccesful go at a Lesser Black-back that wandered through the territory.
For those unfamiliar with the area the following perches areproving popular at the moment:
Premier Inn (southern aspect), Arndale (western aspect) The Edge (closest to river) or just look to the skies!

l drove into town at just after four on Saturday afternoon, cos on the live streaming of the Peregrines, someone had said one of the young had just flown. l parked up and could see an adult flying around and a young 'un on the edge of the ledge. Then this hapless bird came into view and flew around and the landed on the wall, but clinging on, wings spread and looked very uncomfortable it didn't hurt itself, it hung on whilst it decided what it's next plan of action was.
Time was getting on and l had to get to work (damn!!) l really wanted to stay. It then took off again and l lost it, l couldn't see the young bird but two Magpies found it and were stalking the tree where l think it had taken cover. They were furious with it.
Had to leave then for work but l'll be there in tomorrow morning

It would appear that one of the chicks fledged around 4pm. Two others set off along the ledge as if it was a runway about 10 minutes ago. Couldn't see if they stopped at the end or took off. One sensible one remains in the tray.

Watched earlier in the evening as the one which had left the nest kept trying to scale the sides of the box to get back in. Didn't manage it and walked off away from the camera but settled against the wall. Later another youngster was out and they were huddled together against the wall but a distance from the box. (The Chichester Cathedral peregrines easily get out of their scrape during the day but return for the nights.)
Now, an awake but calm looking adult is perched on the near-outside corner of the box but there is no sign of the young ones who left the box earlier. Might they not have returned, assuming they could, with the adult being there? Inside the box I can't make out if there is now only one youngster huddled into the near left-hand corner.
Have just spotted some stubby feathers of one in the foreground outside the box!
Roll on the morning.

About 10 minutes ago one of the adults, the female I think brought prey to the nest, looked like a Pigeon, and started feeding the chicks and having a bite or two herself. The little one again appeared not to be getting fed. She has now left the box taking her meal away as well

Interestingly she sat at the far edge of the ledge for a long time before moving back to the box. The male is still sat sulking on the Premier Inn sign.
