Monday
Lower Reservoir
3 Great Crested Grebes,4 tufted duck,3 mallard,2 moorhens,redshank,number of canada geese,swallow,pied wagtails and heron on pond above dam.
Upper Reservoir
Canada geese,2 cormorants,meadow pipits and skylark heard near road.round back of reservoir two curlews singing well. Also either female kestrel/merlin flying.Quite agile,didn't hover.brown with dark wing tips.Mostly seen from below.Went in tree in small plantation.
Definate kestrel on telegraph wire near road on way back.2 greenfinches also seen and chaffinch heard.

Saturday:
2 redshank Oystercatcher Curlew (heard not seen) Tons of fieldfare and redwing 8 teal 2 Great Crested Grebe Meadow Pipit feeding next to lower reservoir.
Not sure if it was just me but was almost certain I recognised call of plover at one point but couldn't find any.
Best of all was first swallow of the year near the farm.

Yesterday at 4pm:

Lower Resr: 11 Goosander (7 male), 2 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Coot, 1 female Goldeneye, 1pr Tufted Duck, 1 male Shoveler (Oldham first for me, I'm sure), 2 Oystercatcher, Curlew.
Not quite as good as Mr Platt, but pretty amazing range of species for this site.

Nice find Mr.Platt- topped off a good few duck days with Shoveler, Pochard, Wigeon, Teal and Gadwall. Duck fest indeed-for Oldham at least.

30 Wigeon (18 Drakes) Most I have seen at Castleshaw 8 Teal (4 pair) probably the most I have seen the 1980's 2 Gadwall (pair) first Castleshaw record for me
