Curlew....1 good views as it preened.... flew off SE at 7.15 Little Egret....1 on south shore, then west shore close to Grey Heron. Last observed at 8.20 Redshank....1 Ringed Plover....1 Swift....2 Sedge Warbler....2 Reed Bunting ....7 + all the usual Oystercatchers and Lapwings

This morning I missed the Avocet by 10 minutes. Unavoidable though.
Decent view at last of one, of two, Sedge Warblers. Whitethroat...1 Shelduck...pair. Gadwall....4 Tufted Duck...4 Further to Ian's point, all the western and south west fields are now arable. The Italian rye has been harvested but will produce a second crop this summer and is shooting up again. The bare looking tilled soil, near the cottages, is seeded and is starting to grow. A birder walked right across the cropped fields this morning in full view of the farmhouse. Not good.

At 10.35 Two Curlew flew in low, over the southern reed bed; lost to view behind the Willow Carr and not relocated. Probably in western fields. Whitethroat...1 singing male Reed Bunting...c13 Gadwall....4 Tufted Duck...pair Grey Heron....1 or 2 Common Tern....2 Pied Wagtail....2 House Martin...c 10 Swifts....7 Usual Swallows, Oystercatchers etc.

The Bar-tailed Godwit at Rumworth this week. Also seen yesterday at Lock lane; a Lapwing family with 3 tiny chicks and a pair of Linnet.
During a quick stop by the dam at lunchtime I saw 6 great crested grebe, a single common tern, three swallow plus a number of black headed gulls. The tern caught a fish while I was watching, a real treat.

John, Follow the track from the gate by Beaumont Rd. to where the new hedge is planted; follow the hedge right down and turn right by the Reed bed. Go the short distance to the hawthorns opposite the islands and view. On Monday it moved around east shore /west shore and very close in SE corner. Always viewable from around hawthorns.
