Late post ... Wednesday afternoon 24th Feb 2016
Redgate Recycling in Gorton. Lots of Gulls present ... BUT ... the chance to watch them properly and for photo opportunities is becoming less convenient because some of the derelict units in the Hyde Road / Redgate Lane triangle have been demolished in the last week or so. As a result, a lot of the resting places for the Gulls whilst they are waiting for the plant machinery to add to or agitate the rubbish mound, have disappeared.
A good healthy number of Birds still present though. - Black-headed Gull approx 200-250 - Common Gull, not many, prob 10-15 at most - Herring Gull (adult) approx 25-30 - Lesser Black-backed 1 adult only (photo) - lots of various younger aged large Gulls - Starling around 100 - usual Corvids - Pied Wagtail 1
A few interesting looking Gulls seen (photos), mantle hue, bill, and a little beady eye amongst some of the features, but overall I think they've got the Herring Gull attributes.
2 Buzzard circling low over the busy A56/A145 junction by Stretford Mall at 14.55 yesterday, spooking the pigeons, was an unusual sight.

Street tree feeders, Burliegh rd , Stretford - I've moved the feeders (about a month ago )due to concerns from members of the pulic about slipping on wet ,dropped seed. They are now over the adjacent beech hedge in the Sorbus Intermedia which was part of the squirrels escape route via St.Peters Court . So far St.Peters Court feeders have been used just as often as the previous location. Today there's been - Goldfinch c15. Greenfinch 11 . Blue tit 1 . Collard Dove 1. (Usually 2) There also been visits from a Chaffinch , a couple of Great Tits but very few House Sparrow. Small numbers of Starling and 2 Blackbirds have attempted to feed on the berries on the tree but never stayed long. A grey squirrel and ginger cat have been ejected from the feeders using a telescopic pole just after installation and neither has been back since.
