A quick 30 mins visit (15.10 to15.45) in fast fading light:
Among commoner regulars;
3 Gadwall ( 2 drakes, 1 duck) 8 then15 Goosander ( with more flighting in every few mins as I was leaving) 3 Pied Wagtail 1Grey Wagtail
0845 till 1115 1 bewicks swan, found just after 9, it flew off south west at 0935, also seen by ian peters and trevor lane, self found county lifer and year tick 1 wigeon 2 drake goldeneye 7 pochard 10 goosander elton year list 130, latest bewicks swan.

Full loop round this morning, best i had was 3 goldeneye, 1m 2f, 2 shoveler, 1m 1f, 3 gadwalls, 1 water rail flew low across the water landed in reeds near wader point, first time i have seen one on the main res instead of canal, 1 kestrel over, 1 little grebe and quite a few great cresteds, nothing else of note, hopefully todays winds might blow something good in

7.00-10.30 a.m. with Brian, interesting to see a pair of Kestrels hunting the Marsh before dawn. On the res 8 Pochard, 2 Goosander, 2 Goldeneye, 1 Wigeon and a Peregrine on pylon near boathouse. Pair of Shoveler on Withins and 12 Snipe flew from marsh. Cheers Ian

From 7.00 a.m till 10.00 a.m. Nuthatch, site 1st for me seen on Greenway on feeder in a garden then flew into hospital grounds where I lost it. On the res, 5 Pochard, 1 Gadwall, 1 Goldeneye plus usual Tufted and 26 Cormorant. Approx 400 Wood Pigeon flying high NE. Cheers Ian

10.30-2.30pm bumped into phil kelly,nice to meet john doherty & several other usual faces adrian,pete,alex,john few others did not actually get their names,sorry.
slavonian grebe showing well & moving around a lot other birds... 2 goosanders over just after 1pm 2 little grebes 3 goldeneyes 2 meadow pipits 1 barnacle goose with canadas in fields next to canal when i came on at radcliffe. plus all usual birds on & around the res. on withins.. 3 wigeon 1 pintail (f) 10 pochard 1 kingfisher 1 grey heron 1 kestrel 2 jays simon, phil (& his tally counter) managed 298 tufted ducks on withins around 2pm.

Couldn't resist a hop over the border to Bury for the Slavonian Grebe and was duly rewarded.
Good to meet Steven Burke and Phil Kelly.
Highlights from the birds seen:
Slavonian Grebe at Wader Point, a great rarity for the county. Plus at least 1 Wigeon 6plus Pochard 1 Kingfisher at Withins And large numbers of Tufted Duck as noted in this thread. 1 Kestrel around the canal area nearby
Not bad for my first visit to Elton!

Late afternoon,
Slavonian Grebe calling quite loudly at 4pm just off wader point 3 Treecreeper disused railway 185 Tufted Duck on Withins(highest count for years!) Pochard increased from 8 this morning to 13 this afternoon. 5 Wigeon 150 Jackdaw flew over towards the Radcliffe roost.
