A traumatic couple of hours with Warfy this morning!
Additional sightings to previous sightings this morning
1 Woodcock 1 Dunlin 5 Curlew over (4 and 1) c5 Common Snipe Water Rail (heard only)
The trauma came as we were walking around the reservoir. My welly got stuck in the mud. Instead of me being able to move my leg, my welly started to come off! I shouted to Warfy and he turned around to see me almost on my knees in the mud! The look on his face was a picture and all he was concerned about were my binoculars. I passed them to him as I attempted not to completely lose my welly and put my foot in the mud (disaster). I did manage to get my welly back on and fortunately I wasn't too muddied up.
Contrary to what another GM birder thinks I do not have an "Elton tan"!
Warfy, of course still feels guilty, but I got a seat to myself both on the tram and on the train home
Elton definitely seems to have it in for me!

At times on Saturday the bird was stood all puffed up eyes closed wing drooping like one of the poor sights you see in pets shops that usually indicates a sickly bird. . At other times though it was feeding and flying well. Which was the reason for the visit AM to see if it was OK, so sad.

I have to say it does not surprise me that the bird died. The bird walked with dropped wings most of the time and it had a gash below the eye. Yesterday, since I was not able to locate the bird ,I checked the grasses and around the trees and bushes (its favoured location) to see if it had succumbed. Very sad indeed.
