I was treated to some superb close up views of a Kestrel off Princess Street this afternoon, as it picked over the left overs of a Chinese takeaway. It shocked me at first as I turned the corner and there it was, not 5 metres away on the ground. It stayed for a short while before taking flight.

5th April.
This morning two separate pairs of Mistle Thrush. I spent a short while watching one pair collecting and carrying food from an area of mown grass, whilst numerous passers-by walked but within a few feet of them! Was fortunate to be able to see where they flew to, a surprisingly exposed and visible nest and to see at least 1 small nestling pushing its head above the rim of the nest to be fed. Brilliant.
1 Grey Wagtail along the Irwell and pairs of Magpie and Woodpigeon seen too. Small numbers of Goldfinch about.
Cheers,
Bill.

Cheers Tony, i am aware of ians list, and to be honest I think my town centre list may be the same, I was just wondering if we had a definitive list of the town centre, and indeed if the China town bird was finally given Reed Warbler status was that the last new bird for the town centre.
I will trawl over the reports and systematic list,

Lunchtime walk today, saw a kingfisher on the Irwell for the second time in two days. Yesterday (1.55pm) it flew under Bridge Street West and settled on vegetation on the wall of the right bank (viewed from the bridge towards Lowry Hotel).
Today (c.1pm) - one flew under the Lowry Hotel pedestrian bridge, along the bank opposite the hotel, passing within a few feet of a grey wagtail.
It cheered me up on a bad day at the office.

A colleague today saw a crowd of people gathered in Piccadilly Gardens - on investigating, he found that they were crowded around a 'Peregrine Falcon', which was lunching on a pigeon. Some of the onlookers had seen the raptor strike the pigeon in mid-air.
From the photograph my colleague took, I was able to reidentify the raptor as either a female or an immature Sparrowhawk.
